Rochester researcher unveils new hope for rare childhood disease
Rochester researchers have discovered a new drug therapy for a rare, fatal disease in children. Batten Disease is a genetic, degenerative disease affecting about 300 to 500 children in the United States.
KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 150 babies out of 500,000 newborns are infected with Inborn Errors of Metabolism (IEM) in Malaysia yearly.
Many parents do not know what IEM is. The disease, caused by the genetic defects of parents which could lead to enzyme deficiencies among children, is also known as inherited metabolic disease.
