Money raised for baby transplant
The parents of a seriously ill baby in north Belfast have said that
£30,000 has been raised towards funding a bone marrow transplant for
him.
Nine-month-old Dylan Dicks suffers from
Tay-Sachs Disease - a rare genetic disorder that attacks the
nerve cells causing blindness and paralysis.
Children with the disease rarely survive beyond the age of five.
If the transplant cannot be done in Europe, another £70,000 needs to
be raised.
His mother, Carrie, said it had been a tough time for the family.
"Time is really, really something we don't have," she said.
"We really need to get Dylan seen to ASAP and we are having trouble
in that aspect because I think the Royal haven't had a case like
this before and we don't have time to play the waiting game - we
just don't have any time."
